Chapter One: Letters

I am sharing with you a project that completely overtook my imagination.

Upon receiving Meg's new Junk Journal collections, I started with no clear plan or idea in mind, just to enjoy creating with these wonderful papers and embellishments.

It wasn't too long however, that the stunning imagery in the Cut & Create pages started telling me a story, thus taking me on an entirely different direction for this project.

And the end result is something I am incredibly proud of and will treasure.

The diary of a young lady. Decorated with metal trinkets, a wooden frame and ribbons.
Beautifully vintage.

She, an avid writer of letters and poetry. Sharing her musings from Australia with a pen friend who happens to be a Frenchman.
He, a young man and equally talented with his penmanship. Enjoying his last days of freedom before rejoining the battle at the front.

I created three sections within, each hand-sewn onto the leather cover.
The sections are a mixture of textures, colours and functionality - on almost every page is an interactive element, inked to add age and show it is lovingly worn - all adding to the story.

This is Chapter One: Letters

The beauty, and the detail of Meg's papers helped me piece together my story. Taking the one dimensional imagery of a stack of old papers and making it three dimensional - adding a real paper clamp with lined and written papers from Meg's previous collections. The beginnings of my young lady's writing compendium.

She keeps everything, and notes everything.
Her first letter, including a lock of her hair, and his reply.

The first section is in bright colours - a happy time, excitement and joy - just what possibilities could this pen-friendship bring? And who is this man, simply known as "R"?

I gave my young writer her magic wand by winding ribbon around an old pencil and embellishing with feathers. Using the ever versatile Art Tags, I created a lace loop to secure the pencil, so she is never without, and can easily be removed to write her next letter.

Art Tags feature heavily throughout the chapters, decorated to pull out or sewn in to form one of the many layers in the sections.

Smitten, my young lady is keeping all of her correspondence and the little extras she is starting to receive from France. What does the white rose symbolise, she wonders.. And was that a mention of meeting in France written in this letter?

Using an envelope as one of my layers, I kept its true function by enclosing one of the handwritten letters from a Cut & Create sheet, which pulls out when opening the envelope flap.

Over the months, she starts sending him more photos of herself, and encloses small pieces she has made for him.

I took inspiration from the many divine Vintage Journal Cards as my lady's photos throughout the chapters, and for this page I have made them into pockets. Tucked in behind I have used another Art Tag, embossed and embellished.

In this chapter, the sections include Meg's papers along with a variety of embellished mediums - doilies, vellum, Art Tags  - all complimenting and all available from Meg's Garden. One of my favourites is definitely the small vellum envelopes. Here I have enclosed more Cut & Create pieces into the envelope. Tokens and trinkets from France.

Another rose - sent with love!
The rose slides in perfectly behind the Cut & Create piece, creating another interactive element.
It looks like he sent her a bottle of beautiful French perfume along with the rose..

As I gave her a pencil, I couldn't resist giving her a notebook too.
It is kept safe inside the pocket, ready to pull out for all her stories and poems, and letters of course..

Made from two Vintage Journal Cards folded in half, I hand sewed in the lined paper and also decorated the inside covers.

The last page of the first section.. What is that tag hiding?

I have clustered together many coordinating pieces, from Art Tags to Cut & Create images, embellishments and finished with hessian ribbon.

The closing page of this chapter again was inspired from the Cut & Create imagery, with so many French pieces it can only mean one thing..

But first, let us swing the Bon Voyage tag aside.

And open the book to reveal, our girl is off to France!
Complete with a Cut & Create passport and documents, swing tag and stamps.

The pop out letter says it all. Bon Voyage, Mademoiselle!

His story

Hello everyone & welcome,

Today I have a masculine mini album that I would like to share with you. This album features paper from the Vintage Journal Cards - mixed series, plus Alchemy 101 collection and Sherlock III - A New Case A4 papers.

The front cover has lots of embellishments starting with this die cut shape, the large gears die, some buttons that I like to collect, black seed beads and gold pearl trim. These are all great embellishments for that masculine look. I love all of the images scattered throughout as they suit the vintage style of my album.
Each piece of paper and image has been distressed using a paper distressing tool. I followed this with lots of inking. The colour ink pad I chose was 'Gathered Twig'.
There are lots of pockets and tags in this album.

Plenty of room for writing or adding photos.

This album is held together with O rings, allowing room for more pages to be added at a later date.
I am so pleased with how this album has turned out. Be sure to stop by Meg's Garden online store for products used to create my masculine vintage journal album.

Until next time.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
Have a wonderful day & happy creating.

Life is a journey....

Hello everyone & welcome,
Today I would like to share with you a mini album that I have created using these beautiful Vintage Journal cards - mixed from Meg's Garden online store. The Vintage Journal cards are just one of the latest releases of papers now available for you to purchase.

For my album I selected all of the floral images from this series to create a gardening journal. This journal measures approximately 12.5cm x 18cm. I have covered the front & back covers using paper from the Shades of Green A4 paper range. Some lace, pearl trim, a metal charm, wording and a die cut frame complete my cover.

Each of the internal pages has been tea dyed using water & a tea bag. I love the variety of colours and patterns created by dipping and splattering this tea solution on each sheet of paper. Once each page was totally dry I set about creating my album. To create a vintage look to my journal I have used a distress ink called Tea Dye. I also used this ink pad for all of my stamping.
I have stamped one side of each page. Here you could add some writing or a photo.
The other side of each page is decorated using beautiful images and wording from the VJC series.

Each page is a little bit different. Some pages have pockets or tucks and there are lots of tags scattered throughout.

I have added embellishments of lace, pearl trim, SA pearls, ribbon, metal charms and a paper doily.
You can find lots of these embellishments in Meg's Garden online store.

My journal is held together with O rings, leaving room to add more pages in the future.
I hope I have inspired you to create this simple journal. A place to store information and memories of your garden.

Until next time.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
Have a wonderful day & happy creating.

Video of Sherlock III - A New Case

Hello Bloggers

Had fun with this new mini album - I had a note on my work table that said:

pockets
flaps
doors
envelopes

I did not manage the doors but managed the others.
(P.S. There is a new die - French Doors)

There are 6 signatures - most have a flap, pockets & room for journaling - there is even 1 of the signatures that is totally dedicated to journaling or you can add pics to the pockets.

Materials used:

Sherlock III - A New Case Book paper collection

Cardstock: Chocolate (most of the pages & covers), black & mocha for interest - I like to add another colour or 2 to add more interest to the book rather than just having one

Corrugated cardstock paper:  great texture & must be torn & inked

Chipboard for cover & spine

Distress inks:  frayed burlap & soot

Vintage trinkets - handle for the front cover, cogs throughout, pen nibs & other filigree elements

Camel jute ribbon, jute twine, skeleton leaves, clips, key w key chain & dodo vine

Old book pages: a french book page rolled for the cover, some Chaucer for a tuck in on a flap & the cover plates with the introduction of Geoffry Hamlyn (a very old book for $2) - love searching for bargains

Dies: 5 were used. Circles & More Circles m221
Circles (not True circles) m3121
Gears - small & large m105 & m277
Scribbles & Splat - m3130

Alchemy 101 Mini Album

Hello Bloggers

When I picked up the printed papers at the print shop, the Alchemy 101 Book Papers went straight to my craft table to wait for time to play.

A Chocolate Brown cardstock was decided on instead of my normal black for grungy albums & in some areas I used black & ivory cardstock as accents.  I had some hessian leftover from a gift - I intended to make this as a rounded spine. A few vintage trinkets & charms were chosen & put in a dish.  I pulled the Camel Mesh, Natural Jute, Jute Twine rolls & got started.

I used several ways to add to pages in this album.

By the time I was finished it was very fat & then need a ribbon to close. There are 2 double pages; the camel mesh ribbon is used throughout as a pocket; there are lots of other pockets, a section for journaling or an area for a map or docs or ??,  several little books closed with magnets are used and the most important thing - I had fun.

Have a look at my Alchemy 101 Album

Mini Books

Hello Bloggers
I love making mini books & these are truly minis with only 2 double page inserts.

Pale blue cardstock is used on all pages. The cover ephemera is double matted on blue with white. The silver glittered ribbon is placed behind the ephemera (foam mounted) to close the mini book with a bow.  When the book is left open the ribbon can be artfully draped.  White german scrap is used along the bottom of the entire book.

The inside of the first double page showing hanging baubles. When the book is open they can be tied together
