Handmade Notebook from Scratch with English Rose Garden Collection

Hi Meg's Garden Lovers!
I'm Mabel and I'm back this time round with a handmade notebook that I made from scratch.

The notebook is measuring 4.5 x 6 inches tall with a book spine of 1.5 inches thick. I simply cut 2 pieces of 4.5 x 6 inches chipboards and a 1.5 x 6 inches chipboard for the book spine.

I choose Meg's Garden's A Bouquet of Roses (P6429) patterned paper from the English Rose Garden Collection as the book cover. All I did was to glue down the chipboards, leaving a small gap in between each chipboard such that I have the space allowance to fold it later. If my description is too vague for you, you can check out a video tutorial HERE! I finished my book cover by using Roses and Lace (P6428) from the same collection in the inner side.

This is a notebook that I wished to carry it around with me, hence I did not want the front of the cover to be bulky and delicate. I chose to embellish my book cover simply with a round doily as well as some laces.

Moving onto the inserts of the notebook, I had stack of white printing papers measuring 8.25 x 5.75 inches. You need not follow my measurements! I would suggest you choosing the measurements of your inserts and preparing them as your first step. Book cover can be prepared after the inserts are done.

I grab 5 sheets of papers and fold them into half, forming a signature (a group of pages). I made 6 signatures, washi-taping the folds and started binding.

I'm doing French link bookbinding with hemp cord. As the strings are thicker, it's harder to bind. I would suggest beginners to start with waxed threads. The process might be slightly complicated, hence you can check out the link HERE for more information.

After my inserts are done, I simply glued down the last page to attach the pages to the book cover. I started embellishing the first page by fussy cutting from the French Garden Collection.

Mixed Media Canvas by Mabel Sim

Hi! Mabel here and I'm making a Mixed Media Canvas today.

I'm using Café au Lait Papercrafter Pack (20126) for this entire canvas. I simply fussy cut of the ephemera as well as distressing the edges of the papers with my Prima Marketing distressor. I also used Twinkling H20s from ColourArte for the watercolours you see. For my sentiments, I used Kaisercraft's Azure from Blue Bay collection.

Forgotten Meadows Kraft Journal

Hello everyone it's Patti here sharing an altered Kraft Journal.  I picked up this book at our local Michaels craft store in the US and it's been sitting in my crafty drawers just waiting for me to dress it up.  When I saw the Forgotten Meadows collection by Kerry-Jean Watson I knew this would be perfect for my alterations.

The book measures 6"x8" with a side flap that closes with a large magnet.  I decided to color the original Kraft outer cover with a combination of Distress paints in Chipped Sapphire and Seedless Preserves.  By mixing these two colors I came real close to the purples in the flowers. (You'll see the original in the video below, how I mixed the paint and changed it up.)

The latch to lift up the front right flap was a combination of two Vintage Trinkets from Meg's store.  This is the bottom piece glued directly to the book
and this is the piece I bent and lifted the middle up and glued atop the other to create a unique handle

The back has fussy cut butterflies that I heavily covered in Glossy Accents, a hanging  tag and some stenciled texture paste tinted the same color as the book.

This shows you the back, front, and front flap.  You can see how well the Distress paint ended up matching the purples in the paper collection.  Since the papers already had an inked distress look to the edges I just continued on that with my distress inks on any of the edges that I'd cut.

Here's a good view of the inside cover.  I had the rub-on of the sofa for eons in my crafty space but this time it found the perfect home inside my book.  I matted the inside and then matted again with a an angle slit to form a pocket for my mats.  I took a ribbon strip from the paper collection but ended up using my distress paints to make it a little darker purple to go better with the paint color.

I did slip in one mat from The French Garden Collection and that's the one above on the inside back cover.  I love this mat, it reminds me of my Grandma since she loved violets so.  I again added another ribbon border on the last page of Kraft paper.

Thanks for joining me on my tour of my altered Kraft Journal using the beautiful Forgotten Meadows papers. I hope you'll join me on the video as I show the book more in depth, with peeks at what the original book looked like and it's transformation into this lovely gift.

Happiness with Meg's Garden and my grandkids all together

Hello my dear crafty friends!
This is Irit here and today I am going to share my March layout made with Meg's Garden new delicious Butterfly Garden collection and my dear grandchidren's studio photos.
This layout is a perfect example for baby scrapbooking with totally non baby products. All you need for this kind of scrapbooking are good photos with great backgrounds and outfits and lovely delicious vintage paper collection (such as this Meg's Garden one).

The background paper was punched around with a mix of border punches and then I added stencil work with a couple of stencils and a light yellow painted texture paste. I also inked the edges with this teal ink and then adhered the stencilled paper over the basic one.
A few cut out paper were added on the back of the photo as my matting; each was in a different size and inked with a couple of inks around the edges.  I misted over the  page again and then glued my photo over the paper rectangles.
Meg's Garden paper doily was added on the back of this paper cluster for the interest. I made a flower cluster with Mag's flowers, ribbon, metal trinkets and paper lace piece on the lower photo corner and added a chipboard title that was lightly misted  too.

A few paper cut butterflies were added randomly over the page.
The overall feeling of this page is light vintage Mixed Media and it fits my photo and my scrappy mood during the scrapping process.

The French Garden Waterfall Mini

Hello everyone Patti here sharing how I planned out my mini and covered my waterfall pages with beautiful papers from The French Garden Collection and Book Kit available exclusively at Meg's Garden.  My problem was I planned the opposite side of the mini in a series of flip ups and downs and failed to check how much paper I had left.  Needless to say there wasn't enough left to cover my flips, sigh, that's where planning ahead is such a good thing :-)

I had to do some creative blending of scraps to cover the rest of my whiteness.  It all turns out in the end and makes you think real hard in the process.  This mini is two pieces of black medium weight chipboard for the front and back (6"x8") and one for the spine (2 1/4").  I used my Cinch to punch seven holes front and back and a row on each side of the spine.  Using a velvet ribbon I laced the spine to the book, corset fashion and tied it in a bow, inside and out.

Here's a peek at the inside you can see how I tied off the ribbon on the inside.  The right side is a horizontal waterfall with seven waterfall pages measuring 5"x7", perfect for 4"x6" photos. The left side houses a day planner tucked in the outer pocket.  Once removed the pocket will serve as a nice tuck in spot for additional loose photos, ticket stubs or other memorabilia.   I used one of Tim Holtz Bands to close the planner.  I also roughed up the page edges themselves and inked them with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink from Tim Holtz to follow the theme of the paper line. By just gluing a few of the planner pages to the front and back cover it ties everything together very nicely.

Here's a look at the pocket minus the planner

The flips out on the left side house multiple pages to hold photos,

To s-t-r-e-t-c-h my paper I did a lot of paper splitting,
adding additional headers or toppers of complimentary paper.

I also created tuck in pockets on most pages so besides adhering a photo
directly to the matted page you can also tuck another photo into the pockets.

Magnets help keep the flip out book closed when not being looked at.

I also wanted to share the front cover which utilizes many of the goodies found in the Meg's Garden store.  Don't be afraid to cut your metal pieces to allow them to be tucked in here and there.  I did that with both these pieces so they would flow from side to side on the front cover.

Thanks so much for letting me share my book with you.  You'll find links to the store items following.  I hope you'll come join me on my video as I walk you through the mini and share many more still photos.
