"Love is Like A Butterfly" Mini Book by Suzanne Crowther

Hi Its Suzanne again. As I said I went mad with this paper and the amazing thing is that this is the second mini book, but I also have made a Scrap Layout, 3 cards, 4 Thank You cards and a tag. The sad part is I ran out of paper before I could do the off the page projects lol.

 This little mini boom I deigned myself, I must say I made a few as I did one back to front anyway all was good I hope you like this project and you may get to see the other projects on another day!!!

Using Black cardstock cut your card 12 inches long x 4 inches in height so this will form the size of the book. Score this at 6 inches and fold. Cut your next piece at 12 inches x 4 inches score at 1 inch this will glue to the back page to form your album, score at 6 inch that gives you 1 page and the piece alone will only be 5 inches left. Your next piece is 12 inches x 4 inches this is scored at 2 ¼ inches, 3 ¼ inches, 4 inches and the last piece will glue to the 5inch panel this will give you 12 panels to decorate and add photos to ext.

You can add more pages by gluing some flip pages, I made a few like that but I think this looks pretty awesome. I cut the front and back cover leaving a space all around the front cover. I added a lace die cut, a texture paste butterfly, metal leaf, blue flower, small flower, metal decoration with little nob, metal butterfly, blue brads, ribbon and gesso.

Page 1: I used a plain backing paper added Butterfly Collection paper lace + ribbon, silver metal trim, gold + silver crosses, Butterflies and ink. This page has Charlotte and Blake on their Christening day. The book opens like a concertina

Page2: Butterfly Collection paper, fussy cut flowers, a beautiful saying from kit, I used the perfume emphera as a little book to add journaling, trim and butterfly added

Page 3: This page is the Butterfly Collection paper with texture paste, glimmer mist and the beautiful butterflies.

Page 4: This page has a beautiful rose in texture paste, ribbon charm emphera, glimmer mist and paper from the butterfly collection.

Page 5: A photo of Miss Charlotte, ribbon and emphera. 

Page 6: Small page has gather your dreams  + paper from the butterfly collection and lace + ribbon trim.

Page 7: Is the little page with the butterfly collection paper stamp and a saying mounted on blue card stock.

Page 8: With this beautiful paper I made a small pocket and made some small tags and tickets.

Page 9: More beautiful with me in a frame. I made a small frame and place a vintage beauty in then used glossy accents. When dry I added trim and Ribbon, I also die cut a frame and put a photo of me in it dressed for a vintage day.

Page 10: This was the very pale paper I put a mask on it and some texture paste, when dry I sprayed glimmer mist, added flowers and a little butterfly with the saying Gather your Dreams.

Page 11: I cut out a bigger shape of the small frame in the kit and I added Viva Ferro and Viva Metallic Paint with a mask. I also added texture paste and lightly added some inks and a saying.

Page12: More beautiful paper with some mask and texture paste, glimmer mist, a saying from kit and one of the beautiful big butterflies fussy cut out.

The Back Cover has some emphera and a beautiful butterfly. I laced a ribbon around the spine and added a star and a crystal heart.

Butterfly Garden Collection Chipboard Mini

Hello everyone this is Patti here and today I'm sharing my latest mini using The Butterfly Garden Book Kit from Meg's Garden. This is such a gorgeous collection of papers and butterflies that just screams spring.  I used black 6" x 6" chipboard for my pages, something I rarely do.  On one side I used Tim Holtz On the Edge die, Plaque, to create a decorate edge, poked a couple of holes and wove a combination of Meg's ribbon and some black eyelash trim and ribbon from my stash for the spine.  The closure is a Tim Holtz doorknob latched with this gorgeous lavender ribbon from Meg's store.

On the front cover I went back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to add flowers and bling but in the end opted to leave the fairy take center stage by herself.  I fussy cut her out and then carefully added a thin black line around all the cut edges. She's applied to the book with a Semi-Gloss Podge (I also have several layers of podge under her on the matted cover). The metal elements, under the doorknob and the tied ribbons, have been changed up a bit from their natural metal state to black by the addition of some Stampendous black embossing powder and Versamark.  I love the look.

This book consists of 10 chipboard pages.  I used a combination of techniques to create pockets and slip ins for photos.

Each pair of pages consists of either flip outs, like the page on the right above. It has a magnet hidden under the tassel, and the tassel by the way, is also from Meg's store.  I snipped all the other tassels off this beige trim and left one remaining to act as the pull to open the page.

I had so much fun making these collage pockets. You simply start stacking bits and pieces from the collection to form an area large enough to become a pocket. To help the edges pop I used Tim Holtz Distress ink in Vintage Photo and Black Soot.

I also pulled out my dies to help make pockets or slip ins like the one on the left above. This die is from Marianne Designs called Vintage Decoration. This die cuts on all but the straight edge so I made sure I left up to an inch on this side to score, fold and tuck under the mat which in turns creates the black lacy top and bottom.  The flowers are fussy cut on the right, that creates the stopper for the tags that can be slipped into the pocket from the left hand edge.

Here's another pocket (on the left above) using dies. This time I used Spellbinders Arched Elegance Pocket.  I laced some of Meg's fine ribbon through it, added the purple butterfly and some fussy cut flowers across the bottom.  On the right the pocket is also fussy cut flowers backed with black cardstock and fussy cut again (all black cardstock in this book is Core'dinations Black Cat 8.5" x 11").

Several times in this mini I cut the matted page to form a pocket, like you see on the right above.  It's often times hard to cover up something as gorgeous as the butterfly here. That's easily fixed by slitting the paper with your X-acto knife (I like to add an additional piece of cardstock behind for support) and gluing.  Make sure to leave the portion you want to act as a pocket free, with no glue.  Another example of this is two photos up, you'll see the bird flying atop the curved edge. Beneath him has been cut and glued the same way to form the pocket for my little booklet.

Belly bands work wonderfully for holding mini books and tags as shown on the left above. Another magnetized page is on the right.  The metal piece has been altered with Tim Holtz alcohol inks to change the silver to a golden blend.  When lifted  underneath reveals another page just ready for photos.

Isn't this paper just lovely?  Here again, as on the front cover, I took the gold dragonfly and added black embossing so he'd match the rest of the book.  Tucked inside is a tiny little book of six pages.  These were just end scraps left over from matting the pages.  To give them interest I corner rounded the outer edges.  Inside I used Kaisercraft's Windsor stamp very lightly on the pages.  I've used this same stamp in other spots throughout the mini where a blank page needed just a little pop here and there.

I have to tell you this pair of pages are my favorite.  Again I collaged elements together to create pockets.  It's amazing how the smallest bits can just give pockets like this the pop they need.  The little tuck ins are a fold-over to make a two page book on the left and an accordion pull out that have four sections on the right.

'A Few Shades of Blue' - Cards by Margaret Mifsud

Hello everyone and welcome to Meg's Garden.  So lovely that you could drop in for a visit.

For my projects this month I have created some cards to share with you.

CARD # 1

The first card is made with papers from the Correspondence Collection.  These papers are stunning!!  With their lovely neutral shading and gorgeous textures they are the perfect background for any colour or embellishment that you may wish to incorporate.

The papers chosen are Mademoiselle Louise and Letter from Tucson and they are from the 12" x 12" sheets. 

  

 

After sewing the two layers together, I created a band across the card with some of the stunning lace that Meg has in the shop.  This became the base for my flower cluster.  Once the lace was glued down I sprayed the left side of the card with 'Peacock Feathers' Distress Spray Stain and also with 'Afraid of the Dark' Glimmermist.

Added some twine (from my stash), some gorgeous blue and green beads from the 'Green Bundle' and a small butterfly from the Transparency sheet.  The lovely little fabric flower was originally Ivory.  I simply sprayed it with Afraid of the Dark Glimmermist and was so pleased with the result.  Not only is it now the perfect colour but it also has a lovely shimmer to it in real life.

The inside was decorated with some Border Punched strips from the Correspondence Mini Paper Pack.

 Instead of adding leaves to my cluster I thought it would be fun to add a couple of metal gears.  A little touch of steampunk amongst the shabby chic.  LOL!!

CARD #2

My next card uses some of the left over papers from my Butterfly Book Kit as well as some of the same products from the previous card.
Megs Garden Book Kits are chock full of yummy paper goodies that you can use in so many different ways.   There are beautifully designed papers as well as lots of ephemera and various graphic images which would be suitable to use not just in your Mini Albums but for all of your paper crafting projects.   

I've used several strips left over from when I made my Butterfly Booklet and simply inserted some different laces in between.

The chippie is a Card Word Circle from 2Crafty Chipboard.  I painted it with Stormy Sky Distress Paint and, while it was still wet, I sprinkled it with clear glitter.

The bright green buds are from Magnolia Ink  but the rest of flowers in this cluster are all from Megs Garden.  The large bloom was mainly white but I have altered it by spraying it with Peacock Feathers Distress Spray Stain.

The inside was decorated with border punched strips from the Book Kit.

Meg's Garden Design Team Project: Butterfly Book Kit

Hello there crafters 

I am finally getting back into the swing of things after recovery, Chrissy, New Years and also moving house. Seems I like to jam a lot of things in to a small space of time. 

All that said, I still found some time to make a mini album with the Butterfly Book Kit available from Meg's Garden. 

The mini is of course Kathy Orta's All Occasions Mini of which I have made about 10 in all and really do enjoy creating them. I have added a youtube video at the bottom of this post so you can see the mini in action.  The one difference is I used a different hinge method which I actually prefer to the hidden hinge.

I pulled out all of my flowers from my Meg's Garden stash and went a little nuts, but really love the final product. I added a few Kaisercraft wood embellishments which are covers in crackle paint from Rangers to add to the overall feel I was going for. 

I even went as far as to add flowers and leave to the pages on the inside. And using the stacking hinge method meant I had a lot more space between the pages to add things. 

I included a lot of model paste stenciling and also some ink stenciling to give the pages some more dimension.
