Stephanie uses the Elements as embellishments

'Hi, it’s Stephanie here with a layout of some pictures of my daughter and niece when they were on their trip through London and Europe last summer. As soon as I saw the new Elements papers and tags from Meg’s Garden I knew they would be perfect for the pictures of them in Paris. I printed the pictures out in sepia colors to go along with the paper colors better.

I used some background paper from my stash and then cut out the “Paris” tag and a blank tag from the “Vintage Ornate Tags” sheet and I then printed the date and names out onto the blank tag. I double matted the photos with a light and dark brown cardstock. I cut a piece approximately 4x6 from the “Vintage French Writing” paper which I inked over with some Vintage photo distress ink. I also cut out a strip from the “French Cinema” paper and one of the clocks from the “Old World Time” sheet. I distressed all my papers and tags etc with my distress tool and with distress ink and layered them as shown.

I wanted to use this beautiful organza lace flower and leaves from Meg’s Garden on the layout and also a few small cream colored Prima flowers from my stash along with some small die cut leaves as well as a tiny handmade rosebud that I put between the torn paper. To finish the layout off I printed off a graphic of the Eiffel tower and used some pop dots on it for a 3D look.'

Stephanie Uses the Elements Papers

Stephanie creates a Father's Day card with a Vintage Map as the background & she explains:

'Just a quick card I did for my husband for Father’s Day which could basically be used for any occasion by just changing the sentiment on the banner. The bottom two layers are papers from my stash, one which just happened to have gears on it so it went perfect with the clock from the “Old World Time #1037” sheet. I cut a piece of paper from the “Vintage Map #1035” sheet which I thought was appropriate since my husband is a truck driver and is always on the road doing deliveries. I added some gears from my stash and a bit of burlap I had and you have a great masculine card! TFL!'

Sylvie Creates with Elements

Sylvie explains her  unique creation:

'... this is my creation with the Elements  Collection (Vintage Tags, The French Cinema), Dream Believe from The Ode to a Summer's Day Collection, Discover and Remember 1078, and French Garden.

I used Vintage Tags to create a background and cut the frame in Dream Believe paper in order to stamp the title "love love.."

The Tags can be removed to include journaling.. I used also French Cinema Elements paper because it goes well with tim Holz film strip ribbon...

To finish & complete this layout I created a 3D frame with watercolor paper...

How to create fabulous leaves

Leaves are an essential element when you have a sprig or bouquet of flowers or even just a bud on a project.

There are several ways you can accomplish this:

• Dies (these 3 dies are new & back in stock) - they are easy & perfect when you have a scrap of paper just the right size.  They are totally unusual when cut on paper that has antique writing or with swirls or fancy details. The first die cut Leafy Foliage shows the details of the veins of the leaves.

• Stamps

LaBlanche Leaf stamp - 2 different stamps

Adriana Bolzon cut & coloured her stamped leaves using Vintage Photo, Wild honey and Bundled sage Distress Ink stains to colour the leaves -- her project can be seen blog post 05/06/2013.

• Velvet Leaves

Chantilly Velvet Leaves - pack has 36 leaves 3-5cm long

Add some antiquing at the edges is you need some depth. They have a wire centre vein so you can easily shape them.

This card from Adriana Bolzon on her blog post of 05/05/2013 shows her use of the Chantilly Velvet leaves on the lower left corner sitting behind some viola flowers & some punched leaves on the right lower corner behind some velvet forget me nots

• Paper Leaves - Since they are paper, you can paint them; start with a spritz & a small amount of water to stop the paper from tearing when you add paint. The paint will saturate the paper & then blend. Use any of your paints with a wet brush. Air dry or use a dryer & then fluff up.

Paper rose leaves - 50/pk 2.5cm

These are also perfect to add dimension with distress ink.  A tiny bit of glass glitter or dimensional magic adds rain drops

Small pink & green leaves - perfect for buds

 Pack of 10 leaves - pink, white & green 1.25x2.9cm

Very delicate - perfect addition to pink or green ribbon

Small & medium paper leaves

5 leaves per pack. The small leaves are 2.5cm; the medium leaves are 5cm.  Curl the edges with a pencil or a skewer; add some dimension with a distress ink to match your project.

Dried Skeleton leaves - 10cm

Fabulous with an Oriental or an organic project 

Brown paper leaves

These are available in packs of 5 - 2 sizes of leaves med leaves are 5x2cm & small leaves are 3.25x2cm. They are great with raffia or twine but you can also see below that they also really work with pink satin ribbon

The brown leaves do really well on a neutral background. The first pic shows them with a neutral flower on a complex background (artist: Jane Tregenza) while the second pic shows them on a simple neutral page. The wire allows for simple shaping.  Tiny twigs can also be found at this time of the year that are perfect for organic art projects.

Tools for leaves:

A bamboo skewer, pencil or something round for curling the edges. 

Leaves are never flat. The paper & velvet leaves are great because they have a wire down the centre which makes them easy to bend & shape. 

Play with your leaves - have a good look at nature; overlap them, shape them & make sure you distress the back of them.

A Birthday Card from Stephanie

Your Day card

'Hello everyone, it’s Stephanie here with a quick card that I made for my sister for her birthday. I used the “Blue Paradise” paper from Meg’s Garden for this card. For my card base I used a light mauve piece of cardstock cut to 10” x 7”, so when folded in half would give you a 5” x 7” card. I then cut a darker purple piece of cardstock cut to 4¾” to 6¾” for my second layer. My third layer was cut (4½ x 6½) from the center of the blue paradise papers which has a faint print of a man and woman on it. I didn’t do any distressing of my papers as I usually do as I wanted it to have cleaner lines to it.

I then cut out the sentiment and the gate using my Cricut machine and placed and glued them down where I wanted them on the card. I don’t know about you but I love fussing cutting the papers from Meg’s Garden, which is what I did with the flowers from the same Blue Paradise papers. It’s rather hard to see in this photo for some reason but I have popped up the flowers with foam pop dots for a 3D look. I also printed and cut out the butterfly graphic and covered it with glossy accents. Once it was dry I glued it down onto the card but just in the center so I could bend the wings up. That’s it, so simple but looks so pretty with these beautiful papers from Meg’s Garden! TFL!'

Adriana explains, "My commissioned asssignment was to create layouts, 

using Tea and Coffee.

In the magazine, there are step by step instructions on how to a create this

A Mother's Love lasts a lifetime

The photo was taken in 1941 and is of my Grandmother holding 

my mother when she was 9 months old

This photo is very creased and damaged

because My Grandfather took this photo with him in

his pocket when he went to Africa in the World War 2.

Adriana creates with La Blanche leaf stamp

Adriana used the one with the script writing in the background.

Stamping the sections of the image around the side of the cardstock 
and down the middle of the cardstock
for a background and she also stamped on an extra cardstock. 

Colouring and cutting out extra leaves

Using Vintage Photo, Wild honey and Bundled sage Distress Ink stains to

colour the leaves.

Adding foam tape underneath the leaves to

give them more depth, creating a cluster of leaves

falling down. The fine details of these stamps, 
each vein of every leaf, looks so real.

The butterfly is from the TRANSPARENCIES also

so bright and detailed are these butterflies. 
They look great on any project.

'Hi!

Just a quick post to share a card I made for my sister’s birthday using the latest papers "Elements" which are just gorgeous!

I have to admit I haven't made a card in months! So I am very rusty!

I just used my favourite elements for design: circles, chipboard, lace and banner, very quick and easy.

I also added some handstitching for some detail.
