Childhood Memories Mixed Media Layout by Mabel Sim

Hi Guys!

This is Mabel here with my first blog post for Meg's Garden Design Team. I'm from Singapore, a small island country in Southeast Asia. Most of my projects involve Mixed Media and today I have a Mixed Media layout tutorial for you using Meg's Garden products from the English Rose Garden Collection.

I picked Paisley & Roses (P6432) as my layout base. I also really love the flourishes on Meg's Garden name card! So I decided to not waste it and fussy-cut out the flourishes for embellishment later.

I also picked out a couple of Meg's Garden products I wanted to use for embellishment later. I have the vintage rose tag cut out from Cut & Create (P6434) which I snipped it into half to make full use of this beautiful tag for layering. I also fussy-cut out the frame from Vintage Ornate Tags 1036.

I briefly arranged my embellishments and photos to determine the area I would like my mediums to go onto.

I primed the patterned paper beforehand with clear gesso. I used 13arts Ayeeda Matte Coral and Lemon paints as well as Tim Holtz Distress Stain Spray in Tattered Rose and Milled Lavender to create the area I want to embellish later on.

I wanted to bring out different textures and effects and stamping is a very good way to achieve visual texture effects. I used Prima Marketing stamps from Cigar Box Secrets Collections as well as Finnabair clear stamps with my Black Stazon ink pad. I chose Stazon as its permanent and the ink will not run when I use it more mediums on top of it.

I continued to bring out more texture for the background by going over my stencils with modelling paste. I used Tattered Grid stencils from 13arts as well as Prima Marketing's stencil.

While the modelling paste was still wet, I poured on some mica flakes from 13arts to create some sparkle!

I also added Gold Glitter paint from 13arts as well as creating some splatter with diluted black gesso.

This is one of the trick I love to use when I need to stick alphabet stickers. I placed them on a ruler so I can gauge the length of the entire word, I can also shift them around easily to see where they fit better. Once I'm happy with the placement, I simply tilt my ruler and gently rubbed in those 'open' areas so they stick to the background.

And after embellishing my layout, this is the final look!

I diecut some leaves from Prima Marketing dies. I also tucked some laces as layering for added effect.

Meg's Garden has got a wide variety of flowers to choose from. I used some of the mulberry papers flowers as they're awesome for altering.

As mulberry papers are porous, inks can spread easily with water. So I just dipped my brush into Tim Holtz's Milled Lavender Stain Spray and brushed onto the flower near to the stamen. I then wet the areas I want the colours to spread to with water so the ink will flow. This creates a very natural looking flower. :)

More close ups looks of the layout!

That's all for my tutorial! Thanks for reading!

Always Friends - By Brenda Caldow

Welcome fellow crafty friends I'm glad to see you here again at Megs Garden Blog. Today I would like to show you a layout I have created with the beautiful Meg's Garden products which you can find over in the store.
The layout I have created is of my very beautiful friend Lynn Good.

The beautiful patterned papers are from the "English Rose Garden" collection. I just love these papers, the flowers on them are lovely and the colours divine. I created my layout on white cardstock.

I inked the edge of the patterned papers with Distress Ink - Walnut Stain. I chose the ink colour as I thought it went great with the rest of the colours I was using and it really made the patterned papers stand out. Also behind the photo I used a paper doily and inked it lightly all over with Walnut Stain and the edge of the doily a little darker.

This beautiful butterfly has been fussy cut from Butterflies Transparencies Sheet. The sheet has 13 beautiful butterflies to choose from.

The beautiful bird cage tag I have fussy cut from The English Rose Garden Collection cut and create   sheet. There are different wonderful tags and embellishments to be cut from the one sheet. I also used the text tag from the same sheet and both tags I inked the edge of.

The beautiful flowers I chose to use are available in 11 different colours and would look wonderful on any layout, card or project. In these Fantasy Blooms packets there are eight different blooms in different sizes. In this packet of Rust coloured blooms you get the cream is in my layout which have the rust center to match.

I hope you have enjoyed my layout and that I have been able to inspire you a little. Please keep calling back to the Meg's Garden Blog and check out what the rest of the wonderful design team have been up to. There are some more stunning creations below mine and many more to come.

Happy Crafting Brenda xxx

Be True To Yourself by Dana Tatar - English Rose Garden + Forgotten Meadows Collections

Hi! Dana Tatar here today sharing a layout that I created with the gorgeous new English Rose Garden collection. I used neutral patterned papers, Sunshine on Petals and the Trips to the Village Half Sheet, from the Forgotten Meadows Collection for the background of this page. I then added whipped spackle through a stencil, which I then colored with mist and ink, to the top half of the page to add some texture to my design. I cut large flowers from the English Rose Garden Roses and Flowers patterned paper to create a floral base for the photo.

I cut this gorgeous vintage photo from the English Rose Garden Cut and Create patterned paper. I matted this image with a Circle Paper Lace Doily and a piece of chipboard from by personal supply. I filled in the white space around the image with flowers and leaves from the Temptations in Cream and Sage Bundle and some pink flowers from my personal supply.

I cut this butterfly from the Butterfly Collection Cut and Create Ephemera Sheet.

I finished this layout with a rub-on title from my personal supply.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Geishas girl microscope booklets by Meredith Hilly

Hello Meredith here and welcome to my latest project.
I totally enjoyed using the microscope glass booklets from Meg's garden to create some fun scrapbooking. The three sized frames gave me a lot of options to use different colours and embellishments with the same theme.

The largest frame I painted gold and used a symmetrical pattern to balance out the card. By using different coloured ribbons it gave it a frame to draw the eye to the Chinese symbol in the centre.

The two fans either side of the Chinese symbol made it look very oriental and the gold matched the painted cover.

I just love this little lion head handle to open the booklets. It was perfectly suited to the theme.

The inside of the booklets continued the gold theme and I used black oriental stamps to highlight the edges. Three Geisha ladies and some script were chosen with the glass panels going on top. I tried to capture in this photo how the glass gives depth to the booklets but not very successfully.

The following two booklets are smaller again. I painted the middle size booklets in a royal red and inked all the edges in gold. A small gold handle was used for the opening of the card.

The smallest booklet I painted a royal blue. I choose all the colour themes for the booklets from what was in the geishas robes. Gold was also a main highlight in the smallest card.

Inside the middle booklet was a lovely geisha girl the matched the golden outline on the opposite side. With the glass panel attached it was very regal looking.

The last booklet was very small no bigger than a match box. I used some lovely gold gilded maple leaf paper to reflect the Geisha robes.

.

I had a ball making these three booklets. I cannot recommend strongly enough how much you would enjoy choosing a theme and matching papers with embellishments from Megs Garden.  You will be waiting anxiously by the mail box from them to arrive.
