An Altered Box by Marg

Hello Bloggers

Marg shows us  her altered box

Altered Box

'Hello everyone,
Margaret back again to show you an Altered Box I made with the Forget Me Not Collection Mini Pack.
I needed a box for some index cards I had and was actually going to make one from scratch but, when I went to the Quilt and Craft Fair here in Adelaide a few months ago, I purchased a small LED lamp and discovered that the box it came in was the ideal size to hold my cards.

There was one problem though, it wasn’t deep enough.  So I measured the depth needed for the index cards and added a strip of paper board all around the base of the box ….

… so now the lid sits high enough and the cards fit beautifully.

The strip around the bottom of the box was covered with some of the paper and then I simply glued a lovely bit of lace all around the edge.  The lid was covered with a different sheet of the paper and then I started embellishing … this is the part I really enjoy!!

Attached a small hanging sign on the front which was lightly coloured with Versa Color Lapislazuli and then clear embossed.  The embossing toned down the brightness of the colour so it blended better with the shade of the papers.  Cut a piece of printed paper to cover the front of the sign and then attached the metal flourish.  The blue flowers used are from Dusty Attic and are available at Meg’s Garden.com and the leaves were cut with my Silhouette.

On the left side I allowed the leaves to trail down the box, using some tiny pearls to represent the berries  …

… but the right side was left clear.

I also trailed some of the same leaves down the back.

Glued a diagonal strip of contrasting paper from the Dreaming in the Meadows paper pack across the top and added a small piece of gauze to soften the cluster.  The white paper flower is also available from Meg’s Garden and was sprayed in the centre with some diluted Faded Jeans Distress Ink.    Along with the DA flowers and the leaves I also used some home-made gem sprays.

Here you can see how well my index cards fit.  It’s like the box was specifically made for them.

Thoroughly enjoyed altering this little box and so pleased I found a use for it before I threw it away.

What a wonderful way to create the size box you need - well done Marg.  Great ideas for your alteration - finding a box with the right dimensions is almost impossible - now it does not matter.  Love the way you used 2 different stripes - it is very effective. Your embellishing is gorgeous.

Bye for now
