A Card with Pages

'My name is Margaret Mifsud and I am super excited to be here today to present my very first Meg’s Garden Design Team Project.

For this project I have made a Christmas card with a difference.  I’ve made a card which has a few photo mats and pockets on the inside so that you could take a few photos of the celebrations on Christmas day and keep them in the actual card itself.    Using one of these types of card each year, you can keep a record of Christmases over the years all in their own tiny little album.  You only need to take a few photos each time and the card wouldn’t take up anywhere near as much room as a Mini Album.  

I’ve used the Musical Christmas Collection paper pack for this card.  The papers are absolutely gorgeous and the paper pack is the perfect size for card making.

On the front I’ve created a Christmas Tree from some of the DP mixed with some red, white and green cardstock.  The idea for this tree actually came from one of my favourite card makers, Dorota.  She makes the most gorgeous cards.  

The tree is made using a triangle of paste board as a base and then just layering different foliage die cuts until the base is filled.  I’ve also inserted a bit of gauze here and there.  It was then lightly brushed with gold acrylic paint and I also glued on some gold crystals to serve as the lights.  The star on the tree is from a sheet of stickers that have been in my stash for ages as are the stars around the edge of the tree. 

The ‘Noel’ is part of the design on the paper.  I’ve simply cut out the letters from another sheet, glued them onto some paste board and edged them with some gold acrylic paints.

There’s not a lot of embellishment in this card simply because it would then become too bulky and besides, these  papers are pretty enough to stand on their own.   I’ve just used some of Meg’s gorgeous lace ribbon on two of the pages and also placed a few of the gold stickers here and there.  Inside  the main pockets I’ve just placed a couple of plain photo mats which can be used for journaling as well.

On the inside cover is a tag 

which was stamped with a sentiment and then gold embossed.   Another gold sticker from my stash has been placed on the edge of the tag.

Two of the pages have pockets made with some clear acrylic which came from

some packaging I had in my stash.   Cut out the heart shapes and placed a sticker on each of them and then glued them into the corner of the page.  They can be used to hold journaling cards or just as a decoration on the edge of a photo.  Here is a close-up of one of these pockets …

I had such a wonderful time creating with Meg’s gorgeous products and I am so thrilled to be a part of this amazing Design Team.

This collection of vintage type papers and are great
for all your Christmas projects.

My project is a 3 piece hanging ornament

for Christmas, I made them to be together, but I think
I am going to separate them and hang them on 

my Christmas Tree individually.

All the flowers are from Meg's Garden website also.
I created the sections with diecuts and 

the burgundy Poinsietta flowers are made with

a diecut and with the Christmas Greeting P6361 paper, 
from the Tis Christmas Collection 

A bit of glitter, Diamante trim sparkle here and there

for an extra vintage feel. Some German scrap and
small Green holly Leaves
Tying all the 3 sections with Satin seam binding ribbon.

Do we need some reminding about Christmas??

A wonderful project Adriana - well done. I agree with you about them being separated - they will look awesome on your tree. Would also look great on a fire mantle. I love each of them - they look well together but are each different.  The diamante trims & the german scrap certainly add some Christmas sparkle.

Lizzy is a Guest Designer today

'Hi Meg ….as is my ‘way’, I had a ‘play’ with some of the YUMMY goodies I got yesterday…Chrissy cards, of course, the Season coming up quick smart!

Anyway I haven’t sent them into any challenges yet….if you’d like to use them for a GD spot from me then let me know – I’ve just attached them in a smaller pixel size, but they should be OK to load onto your blog….anyways, I had fun…you can see I do LOOOOVE what I call your ‘Bling Trim’ & I had fun watercolouring that Vintage image, too……

Merry Christmas Card from Linda

'Hi everyone it's my turn here today

Can you believe how fast this year has flown by with Christmas almost upon us yet again, I'm always running behind around Christmas time so thought I would get started on my Christmas goodies.'

"Merry Christmas Card"

'I cut the wreath out of the A Berry Merry Christmas paper 

and attached some foam tap to the back of it.  I then used the rest of paper to cover my card and cut a few random leaves etc out off. 

Using some gold metallic paint I dipped my finger in it and ran it around the outside edge of the card, and also painted the chipboard word and the tips of the flowers. While the paint was still wet I sprinkled glass glitter over the chipboard word and flowers. Attach the wreath and then decorate around it with the flowers and cut out leaves.'

This is such a very 'Merry Christmas card' - well done Linda. Your instructions make it sound so easy - your fussy cutting is really well done. Love the gold paint with glitter edges along with the word & flowers - makes the card come to life. Love working with the German Glass Glitter - it is very effective.

Another ancestry LO from Helen

'The Christmas collection is just a delight.  I love the soft, Eucalyptus greens and the Cranberry reds….they inspired me to scrap a photo of my Father as a baby and journal something about his Mother, my Granny. My Mother always had red roses flowering at Christmas time, so these papers remind me of her too.'

Let's look at 2 Christmas layouts & their journaling:

 - Helen is so fantastic with her heritage photos & their associated history.

Helen explains:

'The muted colours of “Christmas flowers” were perfect for this vintage photo of my Father-in-law, who was born the day after Christmas in 1911.   Christmas was always a time of celebration for the family and doubly so, because he was a Christmas Baby. '

The angel forms part of the cover of a little book which I made to hold the journalling about this remarkable man. 

JOURNALLING - in the little book reads:-

Frank was the fifth and last child in his family.  He was born in the far North of the state at a little town called Hammond. (Now a ghost town) His father died when he was five years old and consequently there was not much money to go around.  As a school boy he had part time jobs such as tallying up the bags of grain at the silo, for which he earned about threepence a day.  He left school at aged twelve and worked at rock clearing. At fourteen, he was employed droving sheep from Hammond to Long Plains, a distance of about 150 miles.  Frank was determined to better himself, so he went to Teacher’s college, whilst working part time.  He married another teacher and they started a family of their own.  Despite the demands of five children and a teaching career, he continued his love of learning; first obtaining his diploma of teaching and later a Bachelor of Arts. In an era when only the rich could afford to go to University, his tenacity and determination, blazed a trail for his children and grandchildren to follow. By his example they believed anything is possible if you work hard enough.'

Celebrate LO from Heather

This is a very yummy LO from Heather:

CELEBRATE

'Hello my friends , Heather here today, showcasing  a festive layout .

I love to use pink on my Christmas pages and this collection of papers blends beautifully with pale pink and deep pink ….. I began with a foundation of white cardstock .

I sprayed ink on my mat and laid the mask over the berry ink, lifted and laid it on my white card to create random shapes. Dry the mask .

Next I laid the same mask over my work and applied fibre paste on the top left and bottom right corner.

I mounted my photo on white card and then began layering with the beautiful rich and velvety Christmas papers .

I used my leafy die cut to create a cluster with altered metal elements , flower, bling, heart and tag .

I like to build up my clusters to make a focal point on my page and create texture and interest .

I love the rich colors and flavours.”

I balanced my design by adding muslin along the left side of my photo , and tied string to the photo with hanging elements .

A small element is placed on the top right hand corner,  with a brad and tissue tape .

I cut a half inch from each side of the white card and stitched this to the Christmas Greetings paper, showing the gorgeous skeleton white leaves on the rich burgundy paper, peeping from each edge of  my layout.

I think you will get lots of order of your Berry Icecream Pudding - looks so yummy as does the LO - well done Heather.  The preparation of the white cardstock has created an awesome background which is topped by the layers behind the photo is fantastic.  Then look at the built up cluster & journaling & the placement of each of these. Do not miss the small elements at the top & bottom of the page.  A work of art Heather!!

Back to some Layout ideas using the Christmas papers: 

Tis the Joy of Christmas

'I loved the rich colour of the Christmas Greetings paper and wanted to use it as the background for my layout.  I embossed the little frames before applying two coats of paint and the distressed paper has been inked around the edges.  The lace has been sprayed with two types and colours of mist before being adhered over the top of the wider glitter ribbon.  I fussy cut the Father Christmas from the ATC paper and also the Intricate Glass Ornament Stamp before adhering behind the matting of cardstock and patterned paper.'

You have certainly used to rich colours of these papers to your advantage - well done Sandra. Love the embossing on the frames, the fussy cut Santa & the stamped ornament.  The frames & letterings in white really lift the LO & the vine up the side is perfect.  Also love the placing of the red lace mat & the 2 frames with pics - makes the LO very interesting & moves the eye around the entire LO.

I created a background first with Music Washi Tape and

texture paste with a mask, 

then sprayed some mists over it.

 This adds a bit of texture to the page. 

I then added some Tea stained Mica fragments for

some added sparkle to the page.

This christmas collection are such a wonderful 

collection of Christmas vintage type papers. 

The angels are just adorable... do you think??

All the flowers are from Meg's Garden website.

The chipboard frame is painted with bronze paint

and dabbed lightly with a bit of black paint.

I created a cluster of flowers with the Christmas Green Vine

and added Velvet Posy flowers and wild Moss flowers and

added some Skeleton Mesh to the ends of the spray

of flowers. This adds a bit of softness to the page.
