Hello everyone, this is Patti sharing with you today. I'm using the gorgeous English Rose collection in my Friend mini where each page is a letter spelling out the word FRIEND.
The mini is from a Bo Bunny
chipboard set. I must
admit I've had this mini for so long and had totally forgotten about it
until cleaning the crafty closet other day. What a find! As I was pondering what to use to cover it with I remembered the wonderful box of yumminess Meg had sent me from the store to play with. Perfect! Here's a look at what I started with.
There are so many fun elements included in this mini it's hard to know where to begin. On the first page, which is the letter F, I used one of Meg's Gardens paper roses which came white and I used some Tim Holtz Distress inks to alter it to the pink shade. See that lovely paper peeking from behind? That's the Roses & Flowers from the collection.
Here's the back of the R and the front of the I. This luscious paper is Paisley Roses, you can buy them by the sheet or in a mini collection of 6"x6" papers. On the left I took a mini paper bag and stamped the Dreams saying on it from a Kaisercraft stamp set. On the right I've taken a large Graphic 45 tag and folded it to form a pocket. By fussy cutting the floral image and only gluing it across the bottom I created another tuck in spot. Notice how I've tied both pages together with the soft cream cotton lace.
As the letters get larger there becomes more and more room for larger photos and tuck ins. Here you see I used the paper strips and complemented them with a paper doily on the opposite page. I think these may be two of my favorite pages. The paper strip creates a pocket and the fussy cut image (which I backed on white) holds a multitude of photo mats. I added the organza lace flower on the left, one of my favorite items from the store.
Here's the backside of the E and the front of the N. These pages have been covered with the Pink Vine Rose paper. I glued all the papers to the letters with Angel Craft semi-gloss podge, you can get it at Amazon. It dries without forming any bubbles or ripples in the paper. After I'd matted all the letters front and back I took a file to the edges to remove any rough edges and uneven paper and this also adds a soft border around the outer edge. This isn't a hard process, to cover a letter mini like this, it's just time consuming. The tuck in mat on the left was done on photo paper with Tim Holtz alcohol inks. The envelope pocket on the right is from another of Meg's collections but worked perfectly with this collection. I added another of the white gardenias that I altered to a soft pink along with a tag with tea-dyed seam binding for the pull in the pocket.
The last two pages (the back of the N and the front of the D) were made by die cutting the mats from Spellbinders Filigree Delight and Luscious Labels One dies from the Roses and Lace paper. Since placing the die cut mats directly on the matted letters would cause them to be lost I backed them all in a Burgundy colored shimmer paper. I added all the accents so that the photos could slide underneath and be placed in the ovals and squares of the mats.
The outside of the book is covered in the Roses and Flowers paper and
then I added a strip of the lace with the green satin ribbon woven
through to complete the back. I use Beacons Fabri-Tac to glue my laces
to my pages. It's awfully sticky but dries like cement and is perfect
for lace. The mini came with pre-cut holes and I simply wove the satin ribbon through the holes and tied them in a bow.
I have so many more photos to share with you on the video and I'll go through each page to give you an in depth look at how and what I placed on each letter. I'm not sure Bo Bunny makes word minis anymore but I know that you can purchase them at Sa Crafters. If you've never made one you should give it a try. This was so fun to make and The English Rose was the perfect collection for my pages.
